Cowansville/Granby October 20th, 2008

Two teams haven't waited too long to explode onto the trading floor. The Rogues, very sad about losing their Beloved Pujols, have traded their Number One 2008 pick to the Surge to ensure that big Albert becomes a Rogue once more. Arguably the best player available coming into the draft, Magglio Ordonez, will be packing up his belongings and leaving urban Granby for the serene streets of Cowansville while sweet Albert returns home "...where he belongs..." adds Rogue manager Stephan Morris. The Gil Street parade committee were in full force and provided the neighbors with a ticker tape parade that would rival the Tampa Bay Rays soon-to-be World Series victory parade. "He's ba-a-a-a-ck" was the call of the day. There were a few added extras for both teams as well. Long time Surge outfielders, Luke Scott and Jacque Jones head up the 139 to Granby while 1st baseman Paul Konerko and Lasting (Not very, if he gets traded) Miledge travel to the comfortable confines on Bernard Street.

The Draft 2008-09

Well, it all over!!! Another great day of golf, BSing, trades, sort of trades, picks, drops, pool (swimming kind) and pizza.

The players all arrived at the Deux Lacs course for quick round of golf and trade talks. The first team out was the team of Serge Choquette, Jeff Bromby and Martin Wickham. Next off the tee were Mssrs. Kerr (old), Mitchell and Morris. Bringing up the rear, as they did during the ETTTBBL 2007-08 season, was the team of Cadovius, Kerr (the kid) and Da Commish). At the end of the round the group headed by the elder Kerr came out on top, shooting a mighty fine -6 score, which included an eagle 2 on the 16th. Bromby's squad were a respectable -2 and coming in third (-1) for the bronze, was TEAM LOSER, Cadovius, Kerr (young) and Ace. Cheers to the winners, cheers to the losers..Hell!! Cheers to everyone!!!!

Then it was back to the home of last year's runner-up, the Pinheads. This writer did not arrive until later but apparently there was some talk of a manager ...wait!!! No way this writer can speculate.

Swimming and talking consumed the time waiting for Mr. Non-Golfer Hunting's arrival. Then it was time. With the 1st pick, the Expos94 chose pitcher Johan Santana. The Rogues used their pick choosing RF Magglio Ordonez. Another starting pitcher, Tim Hudson, was chosen by the Rink Rats. Then the surprising run of catchers. The Ironsides wanted no chance of a repeat of last year's catcher problems, and opted to take Jorge Posada with their 1st pick. In a unexpected (for the timing not the franchises involved) trade the Fortunate Sons (What, a trade? Can't be He's not a trader - LOL.) and the Harpoons of LaCheat, swapped 1st and 2nd choices (I think!!! A little fuzzy minded). With this, the "Poons took Montreal-born catcher, Russell Martin. The Hunters took a starter Jaime Shields. Da Commish was next. Damn  it!!! He thought one of those catchers dudes would be still around in the third round. Not!! So he forced himself to take Joe Mauer with his pick. Now the Sons chose SS Orlando Cabrera. Two more starters were taken to round out the 1st round. The draft day host Pinheads took Jstin Verlander while Champion (League and Series) Surge took Quebecer Erik Bédard.

Lost more picks, drops and oh yeah Kevin "Trader Vic" Mitchell made another deal giving up Lance Berkman to the Ironsides for the 'Sides pick (I forget what round - maybe 2 or 3) Then it was pizza, then the finish and finally checking the squads.

Home by 9:30 p.m. A record perhaps. Thanks Martin for the fine venue and thanks to Serge for organizing the golf and pizza and the envelopes.

July 15th, 2008

The annual ETTTBBL All-Star Break meeting was held in Cowansville at the home of the Hunters. We had 9 of 10 owners present and it went smoothly. Martin Wickham was missing due to a previous commitment he had made to do some Pole Dancing at a Quebec City Gay Bar. Anyway let’s get down to the business of Strato...

Last year's champion, Serge Choquette was awarded the Champion's Cup for his fine effort before the meeting actually got underway.

A          Expansion : Bill Busteed was accepted as a new franchise owner. A day after he was accepted he informed the commish that it would not be possible to commit this season as difficulties had arisen.

B          League Setup : 1 division with 8 of 10 teams making playoffs (same as last year)

There will be an 81 game schedule

C          Draft Date : Tentative date set for Friday Sept 5 High Noon (all 9 owners were OK with Sept 5 - a first, I think), preceded by Golf at Bromonts Des Lacs (Mr Choquette to organise).

Waiting for Martin Wickham to confirm that Sept 5th is a GO.

Draft location to be determined. Possible locations are PinHead Palace in Cowansville (if available), and Kevin’s Trade Center in the beautiful hamlet of  Dunham.

The cost for season (including golf and Pizza at the draft) will be  70 buckaroos.

F          Rule Changes

1          Catcher drops to be 2 in opening rounds

2          Dice... Follow Strato rules. 1 of 3 die must be different colour. All die must tumble across the table (a roll, not gingerly dropped). These were put in place to avoid controversy and possible error

3          Starters             No changes

4          Middlemen        No changes

5          Collusion           If collusion between major league owners to keep Barry Bonds out of baseball is proven in the future, then the ETTTBBL has agreed to "look into possible compensation" to Harpoon owner Jeffrey Cheaterboy LeCheat and his trusty hound CoCo LaDog.    Good luck with that one, CoCo and LeCheat

The commish relaxing during the meeting

Written by Jeff Bromby (Thanks Jeff, well done) with some embellishments from the commish

A big thanks to Tom for hosting this wonderful annual event this year!!!!

July 3rd, 2007

The ETTTBBL held its annual summer All-Star meeting one week before the actual games. The commish would not be present as he will be touring the Maritimes on his Harley.

The crew gathered at Da Commish's Castle in beautiful downtown Knowlton to declare protectees, settle the day of the Golf/Draft Extravaganza, find out who is picking where and otherwise kibbutz, laugh, drink and pretend to be listening intently.

Don Kerr, son of long time ETTTBBL manager, Rodney Kerr, was welcomed into the league as its 10th franchise for the 2007-08 season.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commish and new ETTTBBL Champ, Jeff Bromby, started with the presentation of the championship trophy to Mr. Bromby by the 2005-06 winner (no Green jacket but same concept),  Martin Wickham.

After the very short photo session, the meeting pushed into high gear. Our esteemed Treasurer, Serge Choquette, was not present, so no financial report was given. it was agreed upon, though, that we maintain the fees that were set in place last season. The fees, $80 per franchise, will cover franchise fee, web site hosting and the golf and draft night pizza.

The next part of the meeting was quick and included protectees, ball parks and draft order. The protectees for the 2007-08 season are as follows (last time protectees in red):

Team Protectee #1 Protectee #2 Protectee #3 Protectee #4
Fortunate Sons Reed Johnson Mike Lowell Adam Everett Brandon Webb
Chiefs Roy Halladay Mike Mussina Aaron Harang Vlad Guererro
Yankees Carlos Zambrano Ishiro Suzuki Andruw Jones Jimmy Rollins
Ironsides Manny Ramirez Jeff Francis Michael Young Jamie Carroll
Rogues Albert Pujols Lance berkman Miguel Cabrera Roger Clemens
Hunters Dave Bush Dan Haren Miguel Tejeda Jermaine Dye
Surge Jason Bay Chris Carpenter Freddie Sanchez Jim Thome
Pinheads Joe mauer Chase Utley David Wright Omar Visquel
Harpoons Johan Santana Derek Jeter David Ortiz Garrett Atkins
Rink rats Alex Rodriguez John Smoltz Randy Johnson BJ Ryan

Every manager dropped their 2006-07 ball park to try another. The new parks and ratings can be found on the League Information page of the site.

The draft order, scientifically picked using a phone book, will be: 1)Sons, 2)Rogues, 3)Yankees, 4)Hunters, 5)Ironsides, 6)Don's Team, 7)Chiefs, 8)Pinheads, 9)Harpoons, 10)Surge.

It was also agreed that the league would consist of one division and play 81 games ( 9 against each team). Some rules were discussed and tweaked and we added a catcher-blocking-the-plate rule, which will work very much like the dreaded home run robbing rule (more info to follow regarding this new rule)

The web site will try and be as up-to-date as possible giving everyone as much info as we can

C'mon guys, you must have something to say!!!
